Invest in ME fundraiser: NoMenBar for M.E.

Your mo or your dough in NoMenBar!

Our favorite UK charity Invest in ME (IiME) has hacked the ‘Movember’ awareness-raising for men’s health issues meme to raise funds for ME research. This month, NoMenBar, the ME charity is focusing the spotlight on the men out there, who either have ME or are friends or carers of people with ME (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis).

So come on fellas… time to do your thing!

Eirik Randsborg has kicked off proceedings with a terrific version of a Bob Dylan favorite (see below).

Check out the extract below or go to the IiME site for more on this event.

Like many autoimmune diseases, ME is more common among women than men, so people may not be aware that men of any age get ME. Just last week, oversight for research into ME/CFS was shifted by the American National Institutes for Health from the Office of Research on Women’s Health to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS).

We’d love to feature as many stories as possible throughout November. If you’d like to write a guest post for our blog, just send your text and any photos to us at: [email protected] or by message on Facebook, or feel free to comment on any of the blogs throughout the month.

Paul Kayes has set up an event page on Facebook called Nomenbar for M.E. If you’d like to grow a mo for IIME for Movember this year, thank you! We’ve set up a JustGiving page for donations from any country that you’re welcome to use and with a text code if you’re in UK.

To kick off our month of awareness, we owe thanks to Eirik Randsborg from Norway. Eirik told us, “I am married to a woman who has had ME diagnosis since 2004, becoming more severely affected the last years (she has also developed polyneuropathy the last year). Ever since we have been a couple, I have been an advocate and I am at the moment vice chairperson of the Norwegian ME association”.

We hope you love Eirik’s ‘little protest song’ as much as we do – please share!
